Taam Tov in the Diamond District

Taam Tov

Taam Tov

This is a great place in the Diamond District run by Bukharan Jews from what we now call Uzbekistan that serve great food at very reasonable prices. They speak Russian to boot.

Bukharan Jews also Bukharian Jews or Bukhari Jews, are Jews from Central Asia who speak Bukhori, a dialect of the Persian language. Their name comes from the former Central Asian Emirate of Bukhara, which once had a sizeable Jewish community. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the vast majority have emigrated to Israel or the United States, while others have emigrated to Europe or Australia.

Woodside Pubs

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Throughout its history, Woodside has been the largest Irish American community in Queens. In the early 1930s, the area was approximately 80% Irish. Even as the neighborhood has seen growth in ethnic diversity today, the area still retains a strong Irish American presence. There are Irish pubs/restaurants scattered in Woodside.

I can count 9 of them in my immediate neighborhood. My two favorites are The Dugout and Maguire’s Public House.

Dorian Yeager at Malachy’s

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Malachy’s is a bar on the UWS. One of the weekend bartenders is Dorian Yeager- author, ordained minister, notary public, presidential candidate…….

She was kind enough to sign one of her books for me today.
